Wireless service providers depend largely upon revenue generated from sales of voice plans on their cell phone customers. Without this revenue a huge part of their business would be lost. That being said, that is why there has been a large backlash against the incorporation of Skype onto cell phones. With Skype on a cell phone, the user has the ability to make long distance calls for free and doesn’t need to use minutes from the provider.

This issue has become particularly debated with the AT&T Apple iphone. Currently, the company has been limiting Skype use to Wi-Fi connections so the user of the phone can only use this feature with an internet connection. Clearly, AT&T is hesitant to allow Skype to work on its 3G connection because then customers could enable the feature almost anywhere and wouldn’t need an internet connection.

The interesting question then becomes, is it fair for wireless service providers to limit the use of Skype? Companies that offer home internet service like Comcast and Verizon are actually legally prohibited from limiting the use of Skype at home. This is despite the fact that they also offer home phone service and thus have to compete with Skype.

Given this perspective, it seems that what wireless service providers are doing is questionable. There will undoubtedly be some legal action in the near future concerning this topic.

Being of sound mind and body, I hope! I dared to purchase a mobile phone for my 12 year old. I know…but at least this way, I can keep tabs on him for a bit. At least that is my intention. Needless to say, mobile phone insurance cover will be a necessity. Gregory has not always been the most responsible of sons.

The astounding joy, he displayed, when I presented this gift to him was very satisfying. The first rule, however, and the reason for getting the phone to begin with, was for him to let me, or his father know, where he was going and with whom he was going with. Being a pre-teen was a difficult year and the beginning of showing his independents.

No, mom, I don’t want to go to the mall with you. I am going with my friends. Mom, no one hangs out with their parents and so on and so forth. Difficult…for whom? Me the Parent or my child? So a new era begins. Constant worry! Whatever, in heavens name, made me want to be a parent?

I did not purchase mobile phone insurance for Gregory’s phone with the same company I have our mobile’s phones from. They have the best and most complete coverage and are the least expensive, but they are not competitive on insurance. The other companies I had looked into were much more expensive and the cover was inadequate, so I chose Supercover Phone Insurance UK

For several weeks things seemed to be okay. Gregory displayed a hereto unknown ability towards responsibility and still had his phone.

Oops, spoke to soon, Gregory came through the front door and it seems he sheepishly walked towards me. I think I could have read his mind, for I immediately knew something was wrong and it had to do with his mobile phone.

They had stopped at the food mart, in the shopping centre and Gregory had lent the phone to his friend to make a call. Unfortunately, when they left the mall, his friend left the phone on the table. When they went back to get, it was gone. Someone had taken it.

I immediately called the Mobile Insurance company and put in a claim. I told them what had happened. The agent assured me that everything would be taken care of and not to worry. It was in less than 48 hours. Old account cancelled and new phone on the way. Not only are they the least expensive, the claim was taken care of hassle free.
