Wireless Service Providers in India
Presently, only two companies provide mobile broad band services in India. Tata and Reliance are the key players. Tata’s usb modem mobile broad band is called photon+ and Reliance communications offers its own brand. Previously, they were providing the same modems at a speed of 120kbps. Now, with the advent of broad brand the speeds have considerably increased. Both these players are basically CDMA operators.
Two players support GSM support for Blackberry and iphone gadgets. They are Bharti Airtel and Vodafone. The new players in this GSM arena are again Reliance and Tata. Presently, the state owned BSNL only offers 3G mobile services. So, Push e-mails, live video streaming, video calls in black berry and iphone devices are yet to be launched by other operators.
MTN a russian based operator in new to Indian scenario. BSNL, Airtel, Aircel, Vodafone, iDea, are the main GSM operators. Popular mobile brands in India are Nokia and Sony Ericsson. The new features included in today’s handsets are accelerometer, motion gaming, shake control, touch flow interface, touch instruments like guitar, drums and piano, stereo and mobile dolby sound.
Currently, the pixel war is going on between sony ericsson and samsung; both vying for the mega pixel honor. Samsung has recently launched its marine brands of handsets useful in water sports and extreme game environment.
Present phones come with GPS features. It is certainly a boon. The camera includes Geo-tagging feature to identify the time and place and facilities to directly transfer photos and videos to your blog or the web; either through GPRS or wi-fi.
