Repairing your cell phone at specialized services can be expensive, so if you have the skills and you know about electronics and you enjoy fixing things you can do it your self.

The first thing you must do is to find a technical guide for the mobile phone you want to repair. To do that just search in you favorite search engine for telephone model + technical guide or repair guide (ex. Nokia 1100 repair guide). The best part is that usually you will find illustrated instructions and if you search a video site like youtube.com you can find how to videos.

Now since you have the technical guide and you know what you must do to repair the phone you will need Electronic Parts. Online shops will help you in finding the parts you need.

From all the electronic parts the integrated circuits are the most important. Integrated circuits are used for a variety of devices, including microprocessors, audio and video equipment, and automobiles.

Integrated circuits are often classified by the number of transistors and other electronic components they contain: SSI (small-scale integration): Up to 100 electronic components per chip MSI (medium-scale integration): From 100 to 3,000 electronic components per chip LSI (large-scale integration): From 3,000 to 100,000 electronic components per chip VLSI (very large-scale integration): From 100,000 to 1,000,000 electronic components per chip ULSI (ultra large-scale integration): More than 1 million electronic components per chip.

If you have trouble finding the parts you need there is a website specialized in Hard to Find Semiconductors that you can visit.

With every killer feature added and modification in forms made, the consumers keep changing their minds.

It is almost a rage to get hold of the latest model. This guide is written with a focus on the basic features to help you arrive at a model which will serve the daily needs as well as be trendy.

Categorization by Features

Size and weight Those bulkier and heavy weight models of the wireless phones are things of past. You will be amazed to find one weighing as low as 2 ounce with no compromise on the essential features. You have to decide based on your usage and lifestyle what features matter most to you.

The models are slightly heavier if you desire to use it as palm computer, wireless phone or as a camera phone or if the instrument is prone to rough use.

Display

Screen is one of the features you will want to consider before you buy one. The screen size is around 2 inches by 2 inches but you may want to see the world clearer and brighter with it. You may even want to see the web pages, still photographs, 3D games, music videos and TV. A slightly big screen with high resolution will satisfy the requirements. Go for the ones with TFT or Active Matrix screen as they provide a wider viewing angle than the LCD screens. They are also ideal for playing games and for taking and viewing video clips.

Many cellular screens handle information the way a computer would. The screens can download, process and store color images and displays. The quality however is not as good as computer screens and televisions and a lot depends on the resolution of the screen. Newer generations of cell phones have better displays with true color images, easier to work with and compact size. Screen resolution is thus an important feature that one can’t afford to overlook.

Address book capacity

The name of your caller is flashed on the display, if the name is stored in the phone’s address book. This is a common feature with most mobiles. There are some models capable of storing this information in the SIM card. This saves you the headache of typing in the name of the contacts each time you change your handset.

Ringing tones can help you identify your caller. The polyphonic ring tones too have become a standard feature with most handsets. You can look out for the models that can play MP3 songs as ring tones.

Cell phones come with address book capacity ranging from 100 to 1000 contacts.

Talk time and Standby time

The battery life of cell phones is expressed by either the talk time or by standby time. The total duration you can talk on your cell phone without recharging the battery is called the talk time. While the cell phone is in talk mode, it keeps on drawing additional power from the battery draining it fast.

Leaving the cell phone on without putting it to any other use too will discharge the batteries. This is standby time.

Network type

Networks determine whether you will get good coverage in your cell phone. Most cell phones are geographically sensitive, you step out of the range and the reception is gone.

Two networks are incompatible in the sense that different technologies are used to transmit voice and data. Thus a CDMA network phone cannot be used on GSM or vice versa.

Each network is used by various carriers and offer distinct advantages. So when you are choosing the carrier, consider the following features: reception in your area phones and tariff-decide which has the most economical plans cost of extra services like voice mail, text message receipts, push e-mail 3G and streaming video customer service-take feedback from friends and family members

Digital Camera Resolution

Camera phones image quality ranges from 0.3 pixels to 5 Mega pixels. Add to this the features like optical zoom, auto focus, automatic timers, flash and editing options, and night mode. Customers have been rushing back to the stores for brand new models introducing new killer enhancements. These higher mega pixel cameras are narrowing the gap between cell phones and digital still cameras.

Auto focus feature makes a lot of difference in the picture quality. A 2 Mega pixel camera with auto focus will produce superior photos than a 3 Mega pixel camera without the same feature! If you are interested in photography go for the camera phones that can shoot video clips. It may be just 15 or 30 seconds in duration though. You may even be able to upload your captured shots directly to the photo sharing sites.

Installed Memory

Memory is an important part of a handset. Every handset comes with a decent amount of installed memory. Most have expandable memory slots to store photos, music and applications. The various types of memory cards available are: Flash Memory Cards- likely to replace the presently used storage mediums Secure Digital(SD) Memory Cards Memory sticks RS-MMC (Reduced Size Multimedia Cards) Micro Drives MMCmicro Cards

It matters which format the phone supports, as each card has its own storage capacity. It will decide how much you can store and how much will it cost. A 1 GB microSD card is about $45 while a 1 GB miniSD card is $27 and 2 GB card $79.

Categorizations by User Type

Basic Cell Phone Users- If your primary requirement is just making and taking calls. A basic handset having features like text messaging, voicemail, clock, address book, alarm clock and calendar should meet the requirements. These cell phones can take in lot of abuse than the higher end models. They are comparatively smaller and lighter and offer better battery life because they lack many of the battery draining features found in the expensive models. Check out for good sound quality on calls. Such models are made of plastic and less expensive materials and not the usual chrome and metal.

Office or Business Users- As a marketing executive you may use more than 20 hours of play back time while traveling, 5 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby time as you surf the web and navigate through the calendar. You want to stay organized and connected to office, but you do not want to always carry your lap top around. Well all this is possible with Smart Phones and will come at a cost.

The cell phone will act like a lap top connecting back to office with internet access. Some models have browsers and can get you access to almost any website. Wide sites can be viewed with scroll left and right options. Another must feature is push e-mail, your inbox is always up to date. If you travel a lot look for good roaming plan.

Multimedia Phones- For the Elite User or for them who wish to use the handset other than for talking and text messaging. These handsets come with trendy features: big bright displays, full color screens with good resolution, multimedia messaging, camera phones, playing video clips, live TV and 3D graphics for gaming. You can play MP3 and also other music files.

Categorization by Price

Low range cell phones- The cell phones in this range are simple with essential features for conversation and messaging. They come without the flip cover and other frills. Some include color screens, polyphonic ring tones. Extras like Bluetooth and cameras may give you a great feeling, but if you are not going to use these features, it is waste to invest on them.

Mid range cell phones- The cell phones in this range will have better feature list than those in low price range like: better display, good sound quality, camera with 1 to 2 pixels with zoom feature, MP3 and FM capability and some with great looks. Some models come with high end ranges of one feature while compromising on other features.

High range cell phones- Recently launched ones with high end features come in this category. The bevy of features include more memory capacity, cameras with up to 5 mega pixels, touch screens, brighter, better and huge displays, and business applications.

Categorization by Brand name

There are umpteen numbers of brands there out in the market luring the customers with great features! Companies fall into oblivion and are also fast enough to recover with a few mergers and takeovers. A good research will help you feel confident about the purchase. Concentrate on the manufacturer feedback rating, percentage of positive responses and also what extra features they provide at the same price when compared with other manufacturers. Some models of popular brands are: Nokia, Samsung, and Motorola LG.

You should always keep your cell phone address book or contact list data backed up somehow. This is critical information that you never want to lose. There are several ways to do this depending on your wireless provider and the handset you use. More on that in another article.

In the meantime, should you have an emergency on the road or you spot a crime in progress, it is important to make your emergency contact information quick and easy to locate. Assigning a speed-dial to your emergency contacts, and not simply to the cab company and the pizza place, and it might even save someone’s life.

It is also critical that you identify this information in your cell phone’s address book should you yourself be found unconscious by emergency responders. This can’t be stressed enough, as it can be very time-wasting in an emergency for the paramedic to find your emergency contact information among the four thousand contacts in your cell phone’s address book or contact list.

Whether it’s your first or umpteenth mobile phone you are planning to buy, knowing or being reminded of the following tips will surely better your chances of getting the perfect one.

1. Features from which to choose:

You may either be enthralled by the looks of the latest cell phone your friend is using or fall in love with one that you found over the Internet. But the choosing doesn’t end with how it looks. It is advisable to mentally dissect the cell phone with regard to its features. The key is to select one that comes with the options that will meet your needs. Here are some cell phone features that you may or may not consider important:

size and weight

design (clam shell, PDA, side ways, slide, block)

screen colors and size

keypad

camera

FM radio, mp3 player

messaging (MMS, SMS)

e-mail

to-do list

voice commands

band support

E911 or enhanced 911

connectivity (bluetooth, GPRS, PC sync)

accessories (face plates, head set, themes, screen savers, ring tones)

battery life

dual mode

After narrowing down your choice of phones to about 2 to 3 models, research some more. Research what others have to say regarding the phones you think you would like to use.

1. Look for reliable sources of phone reviews

2. Be rebate alert

This is for those who are in a tight budget. If you already are enjoying the service of a certain carrier, see which phones are offered free with a rebate. If you have signed a contract, it often entitles you to discounts and rebates for phones. Better find out which ones they are.

For a better possible deal, instead of going to the carrier, surf and see the websites of the manufacturer for more rebates.

3. Save more by shopping around

Checking out if your choice phone is sold by third-party retailers will help you get more value for your hard-earned dollars. If you can find general electronics stores not affiliated with carriers, buying phones from them is a lot better, too. However, you have to ensure that your carrier will support the phone. An unlocked phone that is also compatible with other GSM carriers will prove to be a good buy, too.

Auction sites may also help you in this endeavor. However, you have to be really careful if you choose to search for phones on these sites.

4. Choose a service plan properly

Comparison tables regarding US service plans abound in the Internet. Over 60 plans from the largest nationwide service providers are available for your perusal. If you do cross-country traveling a lot, common sense will tell you to sign up for a national phone plan. Better overestimate the number of minutes you will use for every sent and received call.

5. There is a reason for the fine print

You have to read the fine print. It is possible that you become liable for an activation fee. The fine print will inform you of that. Don’t forget to check the policy of your carrier for what happens, in the event your phone is lost, stolen, or damaged.

There you have it. All you have to do is follow most, if not all, of those bits of advice and you will see for yourself how cell phone buying could be a cinch.

In moments when you find yourself waiting for an appointment or you are in a queue and are bored, you can indeed find amusement playing games on your phone. However, even the latest cell phone screen are tiny compared to portable devices dedicated to mobile gaming. You will find it hard to manipulate the number keys and navigation buttons to play the games as the keys are rather small. Also, the layout is not specifically configured for game playing.

You may decide to play either radio or mp3 player. An medium budget mobile phone shows inherent weakness with minimal capacity for songs and inability to create play list.

Likewise for the digital camera functions. The maximum resolution one can find for a cell phone is about 1 to 2 mega pixel , not to mentioned steep prices for this function. Picture quality can never rival stand alone digital cameras whose resolution can easily reach 8 mega pixels.

By incorporating so many new features and functions, cell phone may become unwieldy , cumbersome and complicated. One reason why cell phones are getting laden with more and more features is because cell phone service providers or operators want consumers to utilize more of their services.

Another thing I want to point is that the mobile phone battery isn’t designed to cope with so heavy a demand. If you just play games, say maybe 20 minutes, you will easily at least drain half of your available battery power.

So in the end you have to compromise. Either save the battery power for incoming and outgoing calls or play game and run of risk of mobile phone run out of power. Things which drained power quickly and in a couple of minutes include using the cell phone as a torch light.

Basically, you shouldn’t take these functions too seriously. They are most appropriate for causal music listening or picture taking. It is ideal for occasions when you unexpectedly bump into an old friend or classmate and you can take this opportunity to take a picture of him.
