Is Wireless Charging The Future Of Charging?
Imagine giving up the dozens of different chargers laying around in your house, and use only one charger that fit thousands of different devices and using wireless charging
Does wireless charging really provide us with solution to the endless number of cables hanging around in our house and behind our work desk? The mess surrounding us at work is unbelievable. We keep buying more and more gadgets; each one comes with different charger, different USB port and different shapes and sizes. As there is no standard for chargers, each company simply invents and design its own way of charging its gadget.
Do you actually know how many devices are hanging around in your house? Do you remember all of them need to be charged occasionally? Take a minute to think. You’ve got your mobile phone, your iPod or other MP3 player, a laptop, a global positioning system, a PDA, and the list goes on.
In any case each one of us owns around 3 to 4 gadgets on average. And they all need to be charged. Well apparently, the solution is already here. It’s called wireless charging and 2 companies are leading the way. wildcharge is the older one, founded back in 2003 and since then changed their name to Pure Energy. They are located in Boulder CO. And use inductive power to wirelessly charge different devices like mobile phones, PDA’s, Laptops, MP3 players and more. The WildCharge Pad is flat and thin with a conductive surface. The breakthrough highly efficient and green technology provides confidence – as you can see, hear and even feel how it works. Wildcharge is retailing for $79.99 and comes with one skin for iPhone
powermat launched their products in mid 2009 and is more or less similar to Wildcharge. They use the same technology ie: a charging pad and a matching component That is attached to the device you want to charge. Powermat also offer a portable mat that can be carried inside your bagThe portable charging pad consists of 3 plates that can be folded into a small case. Weighing less than 0.9 pounds it is extremely compact and easy to use. Powermat also offers 8 different ports that can be connected to the charging pad, and is compatible with more than 300,000,000! Different devices that are currently on the market. The Powermat is retailing for $99.99 and does not include any cases or sleeves.
So, do these companies really solve the problem of endless chords and different chargers? It’s hard to say. Although the idea and technology are great innovations, we can’t forget that the charging pad still needs to be connected to a power outlet… also, having the need of buying different adapters for different devices makes the whole thing a bit useless. Currently this solution will help those who own more than 5 devices, and there are quite many. Also, the gadget lovers cannot give up on such cool solution. We believe that in the future most of the devices on the market will be equipped with a wireless charging solution and will turn these gadgets to a must have in every home and office.
